This was a new concept for me and this vignette helped introduce it in a familiar yet novel way. The context of play and playgrounds was an excellent approach for illustrating the subjective and socially adapted interpretations of affordance in our physical and culturally built environments. It could even be expanded to enrich our observational skills in doing research and interpreting different perspectives of the same, or similar, environments.
The vignette Governance goes beyond theoretical explanation to tell the story of a relational, systems approach to food governance, articulating a rich definition of the theory while elaborating on particular opportunities. The vignette details the concept and practice of participatory food systems governance in a manner that positions theory not as an endpoint but rather as a process of engagement.
This is an excellent case study illustrating a concept that has become increasingly relevant in the lives of many urban dwellers, including students. It presented me with a balanced, informed, and comprehensive overview of financialization, and how it links up with issues of social justice, poverty, and the widespread housing crisis we face.
